DC Universe Online

Well, I suppose it's way past due I post something about DCUO here. Have had the game just over 2 weeks? Seems like forever, that must be wrong lol. Technically beat the game in a week, which should just never happen in an MMO. But, let's not be mistaken, the game is fun. Very fun to play, fun to control, just loads of fun. However, it's easy, super easy (no pun intended). All the quests are basically the same. Several quest lines, different mobs, different locations, but basically the same design. Lots to do once you hit max level (which is only 30). Majority of the game doesn't even unlock until you hit max level. All in all it's a good game.

Here's the breakdown:

Let's start with the controls. It does NOT play like an MMO. So much so that there are times I forget I'm even playing an MMO. It's 110% like a third person platform game. Controls are just like TRON: Evolution, Star Wars Clone Wars Republic Heroes, The Force Unleashed, Batman Arkham Asylum, and all the others. And just like them and most games these days it runs on the great Unreal game engine. Game is fully gamepad compatible. It seems to prefer you to use an xbox controller for windows. It by default mapped my analog sticks sideways and other strange things. However my gamepad has it's own fully customizable layout so the problem was easily fixed. I can control my toon in every aspect from fighting to movement to quests to grabbing items or using powers and skills all from just the control pad. Only using keyboard and mouse for in game chat and sorting through inventory, quest journals, assigning skill points, map and other actual MMO type functions. It's odd in that way, that it plays and controls like a third person platform, combat especially where you lock onto a target and have to perform combo moves like a fighting game. However, character development, questing, grouping, etc. all very much MMO style.

Graphics, great and simple at the same time. They've managed to make very highly detailed textures on very simple block frames. For example, you could be in a bar and see in the back of the bar a million super detailed bottles. But upon closer examination you'd come to realize it's super detailed pictures of bottles on a flat cardboard like cutout. The effect of this is highly detailed objects that are flat and blocky. Hence it looks great and runs smoothly and quickly cause it's not a lot that actually needs to be loaded into memory. It's a good idea and gives the game a unique and nice appearance that really does make it feel like the DC Universe.

Quests, this part is lacking still. They are releasing new content like chapters every few weeks or month or something so this shouldn't be a persisting problem just a problem for now till more stuff is rolled out. But, the quests are repetitive and all follow a basic pattern. You get a quest to start the quest line, basically sends you into the area where the story will unfold, say Otisburg, or Midtown Metropolis or Crime Alley. There's the main quest line that updates to new quest automatically when completing current quest. Each quest has it's own city block or two that it takes place in and each one has 1 to 3 side quests you pick up in that area once you get there. These quests usually consist of kill x amount of soandso, retrieve x amount of whatever, carry x amount of specific objects to designated location, and beat some mobs down till they become clickable for some reason then click them. After going through 2 or 3 areas like that with the side quests you get instance one. First instance is usually easy, contains a few "shiny" collectibles and usually a treasure chest or "sparkly box". Then there will be another one or two outdoor missions. Then the final instance where you assist classic DC heroes or villains against other classic heroes or villains, also usually has the last 1 to 3 shiny green collectibles that finish the set as well as possibly some hidden shiny blue ones. A treasure chest / sparkly box. Named boss fight. Get a comic book cut scene ending called a headline for finishing the story. And get feats for beating the final instance, not getting ko'd during it, not using consumables during the instance and finishing the one special task for that instance. Then it's just rinse and repeat the same thing for all the other stories.

Other stuff. Throughout the brief leveling process and again when you hit 30 various other quests or tasks or missions unlock. There's Legends PvP at level 6 which is what most games refer to as a monster mission. However the mission itself once in there is just an arena type battle 2 vs 2, 4 vs 4, capture the flag, kill all, etc. You get marks you can then spend to unlock other playable characters. Heroes get Robin at level 6 to play for free and villains get Harley Quinn. Huntress costs 10 as do Robin and Harley so that villains can buy Robin and heroes can buy Harley. Then there's higher up unlockables, Nightwing, Joker, Bane. Currently it's way unbalanced and I have yet to see anyone be able to beat Bane in PvP. Then there are Alert zones, Arena Zones, Invasions, Duos, etc. These basically amount to 2 player, group and raid missions. Some are just open combat PvP areas.

Costumes are cool. They have a unique style function. Where once you loot something and equip it you acquire the style for your appearance tab. That way you can wear any chest item for any stats but you have the option to make it look like any item for which you've collected the style. Once collected you can sell or destroy the original item and the style will always be there still in a drop down list to select on appearance tab. Very cool idea really. Wish there was a way to hotkey preset looks though. So I could hit a certain key and it would switch several slots at once to preset options. Hoping they add something like that down the road.

You get 12 character slots from what I know. Which is good because there's currently 3 hero mentors (Superman for meta humans, Wonder Woman for magic users, and Batman for tech) and 3 villain mentors (Lex Luthor for meta humans, Circe for magic, and The Joker for tech). And they're adding more.

As a hero at 30 you become a member of the JLA. I wish they had an option though for joining the other groups in game like the Justice Society of America, Green Lantern Corps, or the Titans (formerly known as the Teen Titans or New Teen Titans). Of course I would've chosen JLA anyhow for my main but would have liked the option for my alts.

Guilds are called Leagues for heroes and Legions for villains. /shrug just thought I'd throw that out there.

Overall it's a great game. Leaping across the rooftops of Gotham, not as Batman but as a hero or villain of your own creation, or soaring high above Metropolis, it's pretty awesome. Definitely worth getting this game to play if you even slightly like super heroes. Also the fact that it's so easy makes it a nice stress free relaxing casual game too that doesn't require tons of time unless you want too.

Website Updates

Have been working hard the last couple days to finally get my site updated with current info and new games as well as making it look better and work better.

Managed to come up with a new slightly different layout for the individual game pages and have been updating them one by one.

All links now go to a reroute page so that I can update them quicker and easier as the game companies change website addresses and such over time.

Made the main menus and links at the top of page and on the side connecting other game pages all the same. Menu no longer changes from page to page. Many other fixes to make the site more consistent from page to page.

Checked some compatibility issues and everything should now be working in the top 5 major pc web browsers as well as most mobile browsers.

Split into into more pages again instead of having one massive page that takes forever to load. Enhanced loading speeds on mobile browsers.

Killed sound on all subpages to make it generally less annoying.

Verified that all visible live active links actually go where they're supposed to now.

Updated game list and character stats to be closer to accurate.

Smoothed out the look on some of the buttons and banners to make them prettier.

More fixes to come.

Report any issues with viewing the site or any broken links to my email via the easy to find links on all pages.

Nintendo 3DS

Man I need this thing bad. Have been looking around the last week or two at DS's to see if I should either pay the $80 to have my mic and touch screen fixed (touch screen not accurate even after calibration it shoots off sometimes like you moved the stylus when you didn't and the mic just flat out ceased to work.) Or, buy the DSi or DSi XL which have many nice features but I have always thought they were just not as big an upgrade as they could've been. Or buy another DS Lite off ebay or something. Then out of the blue I started getting emails from ebGames/GameStop Amazon, Nintendo of America all about pre-order Nintendo 3DS. I was like huh? Hadn't even heard about it. My first thought was the "3". I was all like hmmm it's not the 3rd DS. There was the original fat DS that everyone hated, then the DS Lite, then DSi and DSi XL. I'm like this is 4th or 5th depending on how you look at it.

Well, I read up about it already. WOW. First off, it plays games in 3D. Not Nintendo 64 type of 3D but actual jump out of the screen looking into a window type 3D. WITHOUT GLASSES! I wasn't even aware such technology existed! You can adjust the depth of the 3D too from 2D to very 3D just by moving a slider up and down. All the 3D games can be played in 2D. So at this point I was already like wow, I want this thing. Then I read on...

Unlike my DS Lite it has the motion sensor pack, extra ram pack, web browser all built in. It also has 3 cameras. Yes THREE. One faces inward at you while you play to take your own pic. The other 2 are stereoscopic lenses on the outside. Yes, it takes 3D PICTURES! DUDE! Like O M G. The DSi I was always like bleh cameras I have a better digital camera if I need. Same with my cel phone, cause they didn't offer me any advantage over my higher resolution much better actual camera. But, 3D! Now THAT's something I don't have! A camera that takes AND displays pictures in 3D! At this point I was more than sold I was giddy with anticipation lol.

Further more, it has a new analog controller on the left above the classic control pad for full 3D control! And it still has a built in mic, built in stereo speakers that can, and I never figured out how this works, simulate surround sound with 2 speakers. It plays all the old DS games plus the new 3DS games obviously. It has a larger top screen than previous DS's with a much brighter clearer and higher resolution screen. It also has the SD card slot that the DSi offered but was not in my DS Lite. And of course WiFi. And it now has a "home" button that will pause your game and take you to the main home screen like a small laptop where you can access software, apps, web browser, music, movies, online shop to download classic old Nintendo games from previous systems, all that organizer stuff, clock, calendar, address book, to do list, date book, yatta yatta. It has the Wii feature called Mii where you make avatars of yourself from pics of yourself that you take with the DS. The new stylus that comes with it is larger than the previous DS styluses, and has a metal shaft that expands with plastic tip on the end (that sounds so ... yeah nvm lol.) It also has this new charging base not like the old AC adapters. It's a charging station you just plot the DS on it and it can stay on in sleep mode indefinitely now.

New standby features are involved to explain. There's normal off and on. Then there's street pass mode which is like even in sleep mode as long as it's on whenever you pass someone else with an NDS it gets their gamer info and sends yours then you can see there Mii toon and play against them and challenge their scores later. It's weird. Then there's some other mode I also didn't quite understand. Cool stuff.

And there's something called AR Games which at least one of them is built into the system. It stands for Altered Reality Game I think. I didn't quite understand this either. The description basically says you get AR cards that are real life physical cards not something on the DS. You place them around you like on a table or whatever and then point the camera at them and the DS scans them and generates game levels based on the real world or something. It was a weird description. They made it sound like you used the real world as the game level and then the toons you play pop out of the DS on the card or something in 3D. I don't know, that makes no sense to me but it sounds cool!

Not sure what else to say about it. I'm super hyped now I want it badly. I'm going to not get the dress and socks and stuff I was gonna buy next month and I'm not gonna get some of the games I wanted and I'm gonna cancel 2 or 3 game accounts for a few months and whatever else it takes to be able to afford this. It's expensive as hell. More than most home consoles now. $250. And of course will need new screen protectors and case. Everything else I have from my DS Lite though is fully compatible so that's a plus. Headset, emergency charger and all extra stuff I bought. Free shipping most places so that makes up for screen protectors and shit. Big issue will be that my SuperCard DSONE Flash Cart will almost certainly not work. I know the DS one was not compatible with DS Lite and the one I have for DS Lite not compatible with DSi so I figure there's no way this will be compatible. But, they always make a new one within a month or two. That'll be another $50ish though. Luckily I have like 500 downloaded .nds game files so I have basically every good game ever made for DS from release in 2005ish through early 2010. And game saves should be compatible.

Well, it comes out March 27th so I have awhile. I'm going to be freaking out by then!

Lots of memories. I edited out most of the combat spam and entire listing of everyone in the zone when I dinged to make it practical. But still lots of old friends and names and memories. Level 50 I was in Reckoning Dawn. By 60 I had gone to Revelry and Honor which then collapsed and some of us formed Revelers which was still too newbie so I went to Adventurers Anonymous. Long before 65 the Adventurers Anonymous crew had moved to Stasis. Level 70 found me between Stasis and Stasis lol. I had been out sick for awhile and then got sucked into some other game and by the time I came back I was deguilded and had to reapp. Over the years I had to reapp twice to Stasis due to simiar instances and the third time I just told them all let me in I'm not applying again k thx lol. Between 85 and 90 Stasis stopped raiding and I had moved to Fates Unbroken for a year or so before they too quit raiding. And now I am in a Rathe server guild called Grey Hawke. Small handful of friends from Stasis and Fates are here with me but nothing will ever be the same as 2001-2009 in Stasis. Yet still I battle on...

EverQuest Expansion 17 - House of Thule

So, it's the big day, technically.  Although one might consider this still the night before the big day.  Expansion 17, House of Thule.  I wish more of my rl friends still played EQ1.  I wish more of my old EQ friends still played EQ1.  With the diminishing amount of friends I have in EverQuest plus the server merge, plus being in a new guild...  kinda hard to be as excited as I want to be about this expansion since I feel kinda lonely like those that I want to share the excitement with most don't care and are long gone from the game.

Level cap goes up to 90 with this one.  So we all know what that means.  I'll be on playing 24/7 with minimal sleep like some kinda crackhead for the next couple weeks.  Levels > all else.

Player housing.  This could be awesome or suck horrifically.  I personally have always loved player housing.  Enjoy decorating immensely.  However, I've seen BAD player housing like AO or FFXI.  And I've seen nice looking housing that was VERY poorly incorporated into the game such as LotRO.  With EverQuest's archaic game engine and antiquated graphics I'm holding back my excitement a bit on this till I see it.  The guild halls, while useful in some ways, were a huge let down so I'm prepared to be disappointed on this feature.

More space!  Ok, yeah this is ALL that matters really.  Bags going to be over 10 slots.  16 slot bag free with regular expansion purchase and 20 slot for the collector's editon.  Two more inventory slots.  Wondering how hard it's going to be to acquire more large capacity bags and if 20 is the max or not.  Hope they don't make these like super rare raid drops or something lame.  If I could convert all my bags in bank and on my toon to 20 slots I think I'd have an orgasm lol.  If you look at my magelo profile you'd understand.  I have several complete druid armor sets dating back to the vermi stuff from fear.  40+ familiars, 30ish nimbuses, bout a dozen illusions, half a dozen or more mounts, and couple dozen other random LoN loot things.  Enough to make life miserable.  Have a hard time making armor upgrades since they require a container slot, can't do slots that require a collection bag or box of any kind, and haven't been able to loot stuff to sell in so many years that I'm beyond flat broke.  This extra space is going to change my life.

Then there's the new aa's, new zones, new spells, new mobs, new items.  meh.  Not so thrilling the 17th time around.

Naturally SOE took down the EQPlayers site that tells when and how long down times are at the same time as the game so there's no way to know when it's up for certain.  Usually 2pm or 5pm est in the past unless they screw something up then more like 8pm.  With likely hotfix patch downtime and sever crashes the first few nights.

We'll just have to see how this expansion turns out.  From what I have seen of the new zones and stuff it certainly beats Underfoot, which basically sucked.  Either which way, I'll still have more inventory space so all is good!

Website Update

Have done massive work on the site.  Been at it all day and night.

Moved the news off the main page into a blog and customized the blog to mostly match the rest of my site.

Moved the links off the main page to their own page.

Redid the menus, layout, buttons.

Moved the css style out of the page headers and into it's own style sheet.

Updated and verified several links.

Changed style on image links so that they grey out on mouse over in all non IE browsers since the blur effect only works in IE.  For those using IE the blur effect is still in place.

Made a few new banners for some new games and game sequels that have come out or are coming eventually.

Worked on browser compatibility with the top 5 browsers; Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and my favorite one, Opera.

Still a LONG way to go.  Have to completely redo all the individual game pages for games that aren't linked off site, like EverQuest 1 & 2 and SWG.  Also need to add several games and toons to the list and come up with a better way of labeling each toons pic because the html "alt" command doesn't seem to work in all browsers.

Website Update

Moved site off of EarthLink and to my own paid web space so I shouldn't have any more issues with anything. Redoing all links as several sites have changed their webpage addresses and other various things have happened. Updating all my personal pages as well. If a link is not working right or updated then it "should" send you to a temporary page. If not then that link "should" be updated already. Really going to try and get this page as up-to-date and bug free as possible this time around. And making it compatible for all 5 of the top browsers. Although the cool image blurring and cursor seem to only work on IE still, not sure how or if that can be made to work in other browsers and since I don't use IE anymore just going to leave it as is probably. Also going to probably redo the formatting on pages and move everything to a separate css style sheet. And eventually going to change the layout of the site as well. Fixing links and subpages first though. For any additional information as to what I'm up to head to either facebook or my blog.

General Update

Lots has happened as usual. For actual updates check out Facebook link at top of page. For the most part, been VERY sick. Was in the hospital for 2 weeks. Missed a lot of EQ1 raids which is upsetting. LotRO - Siege of Mirkwood was released, EQ1 - Underfoot was released, Star Trek Online is in open beta with release coming in 2 weeks, and EQ2 - Sentinel's Fate hits mid Feb. Haven't had time, money, or health to deal with any of this really. Got them but haven't played anything much. Star Trek Online seems promissing. Lots of bugs still and lots of content not in open beta. Gameplay is pretty nice and character progression seems decent. Graphics could've been better. That's about all I have to say for now. Will update when and if I can.

General Update

Halloween, Samhain, the day I wait for all year. spent like 4 months telling my so-called friends we needed to do something. They all know I rarely do anything and that this was a big deal for me. Went out of my way to get a costume. Borrowed money from my dad, went into negative bank balance with 4 overdrafts ($140 wasted), and even canceled Aion, just so I'd have a costume and gas. Then when it finally got here all my so-called friends have better things to do than hang out with me. After months of planning I get told by one that she's too depressed and can't deal with people, another tells me he pretty much just tossed our plans out the window cause he got invited to a producer's party by a friend he knows I don't get along with, and another had already made plans to go with some other friend somewhere. Even my parents screwed me, my mom sceduling work today and my dad making other plans. So, I sit at home alone again in tears. I try to make excuses for them, to say I understand, that it's ok, but it's really not. I really feel like my friends aren't much of friends anymore to screw me over when they KNEW how important this was to me. I find myself once again very close to just severing all ties to everyone I know, since all they ever do is bring me grief and depression. Clearly I'm way down on the list of things that matter to any of them. Screw the world and everyone in it for being self-centered assholes. And to those online I promised Halloween pics to, sorry, it's not gonna happen again. I understand people have problems, and other things come up. But after 4 months of me talking about it and saying how we had to do something, for everyone to just ditch me at the last minute is ass. There's NO excuse for this, for people to not tell me ahead of time that they weren't planning to do anything with me instead of just letting me go on like something was actually gonna happen. /cry Fvckers, keep in mind, pay back is a bish and I'm a very vengeful person.

Other News

In other news, as one quick summary, Nights of the Dead continues in EQ1, EQ2, and LoN. Galactic Moon Festival up and running in SWG. Trick or treating has started up in City of Heroes / Villains. Fall festival in LotRO is going, as usual by 4 different names for elf, hobbit, dwarf and race of man festivals. Still 2 days left before the Harvest Revel starts in Aion. Plus there's live world events going in EQ2 still to lead up to next expansion. So, TONS of stuff to do! Busy time of year. Will try to get some good holiday pics up this year for all the events from Halloween through New Year's.

EverQuest Update

On a FAR more important note, we just beat EQ! My new guild, Fates Unbroken, that most of my old guild, Stasis went to, just beat the final mob of the current content tonight. Lord Brekt, Rider of Discord, and by far the easiest event of the entire Citadel of the Worldslayer a.k.a. Tower of Discord. Got the suffix title, of the Time Lords, for the win. Pic of me with title and a video of the last 3/4 of the fight (tried to cut out at least some of the boring parts at the beginning) can be found from links at the top of the page. First time since Luclin I've had all the current content of EQ beaten before new expansion.

General Update

So, in brief general news. I can't for the love of me figure out why the website link section shows as 1 column in Firefox crap when it shows as 2 columns in both IE and Opera. Hate, hate, hate Firefox and wish people would get over the misconception that it's so great when IE does everything Firefox does now and more. Cursor not showing in Firefox either, for that matter my graphic links don't blur out when u mouse over them with Firefox as well. Just don't have time to try to debug stuff just for stupid Firefox even though it annoys the crap out of me knowing that most of the people I know online and irl use that crap.

Star Wars Galaxies Update

My hate for SOE continues. Looks like couple of my friends not gonna be able to get back in to move their toons in time. So on the 15th all their 6 years of work and items that you can't even get anymore on their elder toons, will all be lost forever. Why not just force move all remaining toons to least population servers and give them free transfer if they come back? They're only doing all this for the same reason thy shutdown the Matrix. Cause they are freeing up servers and money for the Agency, which is gonna be a monumental failure because even if the game was good, NO one in their right mind would buy another SOE game and put themself through the hell that is SOE again. Agency will be right up there with Vanguard or Pirates of the Burning Sea as another craptastic accomplishment from SOE. Is there any hope for them? /sigh

EverQuest II Update

As mentioned above, the expansion for this was pushed back from Nov. to Feb. of next year. They are playing it off that they want it to be better and have more time spent on it and not that they screwed something up somewhere. Will have to wait and see. Level cap going up by 10 does not excite me but rather pisses me off. I'm sick of them raising the level cap to add new stuff instead of just adding new content. Not everything is about level!

EverQuest Update

Well apparently the original info they had announced 2 expansions back about EQ1 and EQ2 getting one new expansion a year in Nov. was a lie. Both games expansions have been pushed back right out of 2009. Just found out today that EQ1 expansion beta is going from Oct. 20 - Dec. 1 and release will be in 2010. So we got nothing new in 2009 for either game. And they wonder why eveyrone quitting for games from other companies.

Legends of Norrath Update

Starting todays news with the biggest issue. LoN! SOE slated to remove ALL Oathbound (set 1) cards from the store and gameplay. I will no longer be able to complete scenarios on my alt's account for one thing. Plus my main deck is hosed. All my most important cards will be gone, Forge Ahead, Divine Aura, Intercession, Journey Boots, Flowing Black Silk Sash, Severed Paw of Opalla, Sunder, Disable, the list goes on and on. It'd be unheard of to remove Divine Aura from priests in EQ1 or EQ2 don't see why they think it's ok here!

Plus there's this new AFK nonsense. I had won round 1 today against silver ranked player. Was all excited. Lost round 2 horribly. But then missed round 3 due to rl stuff that came up. I cam rushing back for round 4 to discover I had been removed from the tourney. So what, I'm supposed to just ignore real life completely or else I'm screwed? I understand there's been a problem with afk'rs in the past but this is not a fix, this is breaking the game for the rest of us.

The worst part is probably that they refuse to respond. Pages of posts, tons of threads, maybe 1 in 50 people agree with them if that. NONE of the players that have been playing for years like or agree with the Oathbound ban. Hundreds of dollars of cards gone, useless, money out the window. Lots of players only really have Oathbound cards. This change is right up there in SOE's hall of monument failures like the sWG "new game experience" or Vanguard going 4 months from release with zones that still had NO MOBS. I dont' know what to think or say but everyone just getting more and more upset as time goes by without any info.

Speaking from past experiences they won't change it or pay any attention to the player base. They never do. They think they know what's right for us and that we're all wrong and will just come around to their point of view. This is not gonna happen. What they are about to do is alienate the large majority of players from tourneys and events.

This change will even make Santug Clugg and other holiday and special event cards banned. Why did we go out of our way to play on holidays to get these cards? And they're giving us no info or warning. They announce all this crap like 2 weeks before release when the next set is obviously already done and ready for release. Nothing we say is gonna stop them or make them change their minds now.

I for one may keep playing but I won't buy any new cards and I have no intention of buying cards or continuing to play the SWG-TCG as everyone knows this same thing will end up happening there. SOE really pushing their luck with pissing people off this time around.

General Update

VERY annoyed with SOE. VERY, VERY annoyed. It's a wonder I don't cancel my station all access accounts and just tell them to go screw themselves. Be a miracle if I don't get banned over my comments in the LoN forums, but I've had it!
